Reviews Here's an excerpt from a new review of the new Nicolas CD "The Water Wheel" by critic Shawn Linderman of the UK's www.acousticmusic.com online magazine: "There's a new voice coming out of the folk cauldron of NYC, a highly literate voice backed by musicianship of strength and complexity. Eric Nicolas' first CD, Amnesty, might have evoked vocal comparisons to early James Taylor (but Eric's voice is a bit higher, clearer and sweeter) due to the ease with which one could categorize it as "folk." But his new release, "The Water Wheel," is not so easily pigeonholed. It is much more complex vocally and instrumentally, and Eric exercises greater confront in the subject matters he addresses. The themes in The Water Wheel are contemporary, and Eric strikes hard at war and hatred, while also gracefully exploring love from several viewpoints. Blind acceptance of political manipulation, the dearth of options available to a people targeted by war; Eric Nicolas is not shy about speaking out. The Water Wheel is an important work of political activism, as well as a showcase of prodigious musical skill. Read the whole review here. ANTHEM ATTRACTS INTERNATIONAL ATTENTION AS "(Let’s All) JOIN THE MUJAHIDEEN" HITS GERMAN AIRWAVES February 21, 2003. New York City, based singer/songwriter, Eric Nicolas’s song, "(Let’s All) JOIN THE MUJAHIDEEN" from his second independent album, The Water Wheel is attracting attention in Germany. Currently being played on both Radio Multikulti, 106.8 MHz and Radio Berlin, 90.8 MHz. The song is written from the point of view of a little boy somewhere in the Islamic world. His feelings are much like those his counterpart in the American colonies might have expressed circa 1775. The Water Wheel will be released in mid Spring of 2003. For the first public review of the debut CD, Amnesty, check out journalist Eric Francis's website. |
